Last night I held you.
Last night you didn’t feel good. I held you.
Last night I listened to you breathe. I held you.
Last night I stayed awake and watched you sleep. I held you.
Last night I traced your beautifully perfect face with my fingers. I held you.
Last night I breathed in your sweet, sweet smell. I held you.
Last night I counted all of your tiny fingers and toes. I held you.
Last night I felt the warmth of your body on mine. I held you.
Last night I felt how much you needed me. You needed to hear my heart beating. You needed my touch. I held you.
Last night I thought about how big you are now. How you take up my whole chest and stomach now. I held you tighter.
Last night I remembered you won’t always need me to hold you. You will grow big and strong. I held you longer.
Last night I was so tired and wanted to sleep, but I knew the days are fleeting and the moments are short.
And if you need me tonight, baby, I will hold you.
So beautiful, Katie! Don’t worry, your children will always need you – I know I still need my mom even though she’s holding me from heaven now.

Katie, thank you for sharing your beautiful story of unconditional love for that sweet little baby boy. He is blessed to have such a loving mommy. Keep going during those sleepy hour feedings.
